KC’s Experience with Great Lakes CrossFit

When one of my friends asked me to go to Great Lakes CrossFit with her in late October, I had no expectations. Exercise has always been a big part of my life. I figured that I was in pretty good shape so how could another exercise program make a difference in my life. I was wrong. Turns out CrossFit was exactly the difference I needed.

I started slowly going to a class or two whenever I had the time. I noticed that the days I made it to Great Lakes CrossFit I had more energy and I felt stronger. I decided to enroll in the Executive Fitness Starter Program which is a 3 day a week program for 6 weeks. The program is designed for those who want to get back into shape. For me the program helped me get in better shape.

I have Cystic Fibrosis which is a genetic lung disease. I do several hours of treatments everyday to help fight lung infections and maintain lung function. One of my most important therapies is exercise. Out of all the exercise I have done over the last 10 years CrossFit is the one program that has actually improved my lung function. I can only imagine what it would do for someone with healthy lungs.

During my 6th week of the executive program. I repeated a “Workout of the Day” (WOD) from the first week. I added 18 repetitions to my overall total. I am amazed at how different I feel in such a short amount of time. CrossFit has taught me that I am capable of more than I thought. I am so much stronger. My muscles are more developed but I don’t look like a body builder. My clothes fit better, I have more endurance… I am inspired.

    KC –
Thanks so much for posting this. I am good friends with Staci Russell and she has been trying to get me out there for ages. Now, I am truly inspired to give it a shot. I have heard such great feedback. You continue to impress – looking forward to seeing you at the next CF event or even better at the gym. :)

Hi, KC! I’m not a huge FB fan, but I was responding to a post about Chef’s Fantasy and noticed a post – which happens to be yours – about Crossfit. I go to Crossfit 440 in Mentor several times a week and love it! I’m so happy to see your also a CF fan! Believed me, it’s crossed my mind – we should do a CF for CF fundraiser! Hope to talk with you soon – Stacey
